Book: Proverbs 29
“Whoever stubbornly refuses to accept criticism will suddenly be destroyed beyond recovery.”
I remember listening one day as a man that I served with was being criticized over a multiple of issues that I knew he was innocent of. He sat there accepting what was being said and trying to understand as much as possible the issues. After, the meeting I went to him and said that I thought he was being criticized unfairly. He said to me, “Steve, if there is even one little bit of truth in the criticism I want to know and understand it so that I can learn and correct it for next time.” Wow, I would say that answer was not what I was expecting.
The Johari Window model shows that even though there are things we know and others know about ourselves there is also things that others know that we don’t know about ourselves. Therefore it is important that we allow others to speak into our lives so that we can learn more about ourselves. This does not mean we necessarily own everything people criticize us about but we do need to discover, with God’s help, what is true. To reject all criticism demonstrates a self-centered life that will destroy.
Have you been criticized recently. Ask the Lord to help you see any truth that might be in it so that you, with His help, can make the changes needed.
