Book: Proverbs 14
“Fools make fun of guilt, but the godly acknowledge it and seek reconciliation.”
Many people do not like the word sin nor are they even willing to admit their guilt. Without calling it what it is and admitting the failure, there is no room for forgiveness and reconciliation. This is not new in our society. Throughout history, God has over and over warned His created people to take sin seriously. Here are several Old Testament verses warning about this:
Isaiah 5:20 “What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter.”
Jeremiah 8:6 “I listen to their conversations and don’t hear a word of truth. Is anyone sorry for doing wrong? Does anyone say, “What a terrible thing I have done”? No! All are running down the path of sin as swiftly as a horse galloping into battle!”
Here are some New Testament verses warning about this:
2 Thessalonians 2:12 “Then they will be condemned for enjoying evil rather than believing the truth.”
2 Peter 2:13 “Their destruction is their reward for the harm they have done. They love to indulge in evil pleasures in broad daylight. They are a disgrace and a stain among you. They delight in deception even as they eat with you in your fellowship meals.”
Since the King of the Kingdom takes sin seriously, so should His Kingdom Builders. Laughing off sin or trying to down play the importance of it is a dangerous attitude leading to one’s own destruction. This is not what God wants for His people. He desires, even willing to die on the cross for it, that people would receive the gift of forgiveness and be brought back to what they were intended to be. He is in the redeeming business!
Take a few moments before God to consider if there is any sin that you have not taken seriously and need to confess before Him. He doesn’t want us to live a life of guilt but to live a life of victory through Him.
