Book: Proverbs 28
“To reject the law is to praise the wicked; to obey the law is to fight them.”
One of the strongest ways to fight against the wickedness of this world is to be a contrast to it by fearing and obeying God. Sin never brings the long lasting joy, peace and happiness that surrendering to the Lord and His ways does. As those who have chosen to reject God’s ways see Kingdom builders who are confident in their King, being obedient to Him in the fullest extent and have the joy of the Lord in them, they will be convicted.
Our obedient lives to the King should be a loud rebuttal to those who deny God His rightful place in their lives without us even opening our mouths. The way that we treat and love our spouse both in private and public should on its own speak to the sacredness of the marriage covenant. The hard work for our employer, with commitment and dedication should be an example to others of God giving us the strength because of our obedience to Him. The Christian business leader should care for his employees as God sacrificially cares for His people.
I like the way Matthew 5:14-16 brings out this concept that our lives should demonstrate to others our obedience to God when it says “You are the light of the world – like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.” Even in the darkest place of sin and wickedness, those who are obedient to God and shine their lights will impact people for the Kingdom. The action of light is much stronger than someone yelling at the top of their voice telling people it is dark and they need light. We need to be the light and then invite them into the light. Jesus said in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
There are many who would prefer not to believe, follow, or obey what God says and yet believe they are doing what is right. They even look, quote or admire others who disobey God’s Word and praise them. This is going contrary to God. It might make them feel good in their own sin but it is still wrong.
Today, before God, choose to live to the highest level of obedience to your King. May your marriage, employment, and relationships be so bright in obedience to the King that your light shines brightly on the hilltop where God has placed you.
