Book: Proverbs 18
Proverbs 18:16 Giving a gift can open doors; it gives access to important people!
When we went on a prayer/vision trip to Taiwan some years ago, I asked the hosting missionaries what we could bring for their use. They answered instantly with, “if you have room, please bring us some of those maple cookies that are shaped like maple leafs. The people of Taiwan love to receive them as gifts!”. Not only did we have room in our suitcases but we had the privilege of being there when some of them were handed out. Many times doors in Taiwan opened to us to meet and have tea with business people, neighbours, temple priests and even city councillors because of the reputation of love and generosity of the local missionaries.
Not only do gifts communicate generosity and thoughtfulness but they also convey honour, respect, appreciation and even sacrifice. God is the greatest example of a gift giver. He is continually raining down gifts, benefits and blessings to His creation He loves. As Christ’s ambassadors, He loves giving gifts through us as well.
2 Corinthians 5:20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us.
Next time you need a door of opportunity opened, ask the Lord if a gift would be helpful in the situation. Then ask Him what He would like you to give.
