Book: Proverbs 4
“The way of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, which shines ever brighter until the full light of day.”
During the years when I was involved in training young people to lead in camp ministry, we would usually choose one morning to get up early and watch the sunrise over Lake Winnipeg. Yes, it was tough getting up early as training took place at the end of June, close to the time when the sun went down late and came up early. About a half hour before the sun would be in sight we would meet at the beach. We would look east and see incredible colors in the sky which constantly changed. As we looked at the horizon we knew the sun would soon rise but at first could not identify the exact place. Gradually it became clear as that spot became brighter. Then that anticipated moment came when the tip of the sun could be seen. Wow, the new day was beginning! The little sliver of sun that could be seen was so bright; you could not look directly at it. Soon, the warmth of the sun was felt. By the time we returned to our lodging to get cleaned up for the day (or go back to bed in some cases) the sun had risen away from the horizon chasing away all darkness.
As we fear God and obey Him, to others our lives are like that first gleam of dawn. For those who are struggling with the darkness of life and do not know Jesus, they will see the hope in our lives. They may see the attractiveness of God in our lives, like the beautiful colors in the sky and desire it as well, which provides the opportunity to lead them to experience the Son of God. The incredible good news is that as they come into a relationship with Him, fearing God and obeying Him, their lives will also be transformed giving hope to others.
Notice that it’s the sun that does all the work. As it rises, brightness and color come into the sky. As the Son, Jesus who died on the cross is received, our lives are being transformed becoming an attraction to those without hope.
Be encouraged today to continue to follow the path of righteousness and reflect His great light!
