Book: Proverbs 20
“A gossiper goes around telling secrets, so don’t hang around with chatterers.”
There is a Sunday School song that I learned when I was growing up called O Be Careful. The second and last verse says:
“O be careful little ears what you hear. O be careful little ears what you hear. There’s a Father up above and He’s looking down in love. So, be careful little ears what you hear.”
“O be careful little mouth what you say. O be careful little mouth what you say. There’s a Father up above and He’s looking down in love. So, be careful little mouth what you say.”
We need to remember that God hears everything we say.
Associating with gossipers and listening to their ongoing conversation is not healthy for you or them. By listening to their gossip, you are encouraging them to sin. Every time they speak negative about someone else they are spreading hurt. Does this help anyone?
Matthew 12:36-37 reminds us that we are responsible for what we say when it says, “I tell you this, you must give an account on judgment day for every idle word you speak. The words you say will either acquit you or condemn you.”
Kingdom builders’ words bring life when it is needed. They are interested in building people up instead of gossiping or chattering about people which tears them down.
Today be careful what you say and what conversations you listen to. Choose good companions!
