Book: Proverbs 9
“Fear the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.”
I am so glad that God chose to give us His written word the Bible, and His Holy Spirit so that we might get to know Him. A great study is to examine the different names that God is called. These names give us a greater understanding of what God is like or who He is. Usually in the English translations He is referred to as God or Lord but in the original languages they are much more descriptive. Here are three examples:
El Elyon (The Most High God) – There is nothing or anyone greater, more powerful or sovereign than Him. (Genesis 14:18)
Jehovah Rapha (The Lord Who Heals) – He is the Great Physician. Since He made us, and He knows everything about us including our physical and emotional make up He is the Great Healer. (Exodus 15:26)
Jehovah Jireh (The Lord Will Provide) -Abraham called God this when He provided a ram for an offering. (Genesis 22:13-14)
Take one of the above names for God (or choose a different one that you know) and consider how knowing His descriptive name can help you make good decisions. Next acknowledge God by declaring back to Him in prayer that He is (Most High, Great Healer, or Provider). Think about that name throughout today.
