Book: Proverbs 3
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
It’s only been in the last few years when I started doing therapeutic consultations that I discovered another benefit of praying for wisdom. There is alot of stored up knowledge and resources for me to draw on but it is the Lord who takes the consult to a higher level. As I have prayed prior to offering advice, admitting to God my need of His wisdom, asking for it as well as for His understanding, guidance and presence, He has been there for me and my patients. He has shown up in remarkable ways! Not only have these patients received solutions to difficult problems but the Lord has even made His presence known! These patients have not necessarily been aware of how the Lord is influencing the situation but I have noticed through the comments they have made. One woman expressed, “I am feeling such peace as I am talking with you.” Another woman sharing her long struggle with physical and mental health commented, “I have never felt free to share my story with anyone like that before.” These women were not experiencing my expertise but rather they were encountering the healing touch of the Lord! It was nothing I had done except submitted myself to the Lord and committed the meeting to Him. As we ask for wisdom and by faith believe, He will answer. The Lord will be able to live through us. What a privilege and reward it is to be the channel of His blessing!
One of my favourite hymns (by Mary E. Maxwell 1900) says,
Channels only blessed Master, but with all thy wondrous power flowing through us, thou canst use us, everyday and every hour.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. James 1:5-8
