Life-Giving Fountain

Book: Proverbs 14

“Fear of the Lord is a life-giving fountain; it offers escape from the snares of death.”

Valentine’s day is a time for lovers to give gifts to each other and show their love for each other. It is one of the most expensive times to give flowers (along with Mother’s Day). Jesus, because of His love for you and me gave up His life so that we might have forgiveness and experience the “life-giving fountain”. It says in John 3:16, a very famous verse in the Bible, “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” God loves you so much and wants you to experience not only His love but also be in a right relationship with Him making it possible for you to be truly alive to all that you were made to be.

As we fear the Lord we receive His wisdom that is a life-giving fountain. He is the source of life. He wants to continually pour life in and through you so that He can be alive in you.

A plant that does not have access to water and nutrients will eventually die. Water is important for survival of plants and even ourselves. Psalm 1:1-3 says, “Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with mockers. But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night. They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do.” A person whose habit is to obey and follow God’s plan and wisdom will be full of joy.

In your life today have you been receiving from the fountain, the Lord, the life giving joy that helps you to grow and produce fruit? He wants you to rely on it and benefit from it just like a tree planted by the river bank. By taking time to meditate on His Word, talking with Him through prayer and inviting His Holy Spirit to fill you up you will enjoy bearing wonderful fruit.
