Book: Proverbs 1
“Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance by exploring the meaning in these proverbs and parables, the words of the wise and their riddles.”
Reading a chapter of Proverbs a day is good but those who take the time to “explore the meaning” of a proverb will benefit even more. They will be able to apply it into situations in their life. In other words the proverb will provide guidance to them.
As you quietly and slowly read through the book of proverbs this month, take note of any thoughts or verses that seem to jump off the page at you. These are significant. I like to highlight them with a pen and then come back to them after I have finished reading. If there are several that I have highlighted I will read them all again and spend time meditating on one that seems more significant. I ask the Lord, “What is it that you are wanting me to understand from this verse?”
I remember reading, studying and meditating on a verse that just seemed to pop right off the page at me. I could not understand how it applied in my life. For weeks I continued to think about it asking the Lord to show me what He wanted me to do with it. Several months went by and suddenly I was in a situation where that nugget of wisdom was needed. As soon as it happened I knew that God had me wrestle with that verse just for that situation. He was honored since I was guided by the Word of God.
As a Kingdom builder, take time to explore the meaning of the proverbs so that you will receive guidance and be able to guide others well. I challenge you to share with one other person what God has been showing you from His Word!
