Book: Proverbs 21
“Some people are always greedy for more, but the godly love to give!”
God’s economy is so different than our humans economy. It would seem that the more we give into the Kingdom the less we would have. Yet it works the very opposite. Why is this so?
Here are two verses that show how God sees our giving:
2 Corinthians 9:7 “You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
Acts 20:35 “And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”
Why is it that God loves those who give cheerfully and He says it is more blessed to give? Could it be that He is looking for Kingdom Builders who would be a conduit of His love to others. Think about a fire hose that is full of water but is not giving any water out the end because the nozzle is turned off. How much more water can go into the hose? None! But open the nozzle and watch the water spray putting the fire out. As fast as the water goes out the end, water is going in the other end. This seems to be a principle of how God works.
God can’t use greedy people because they hold onto the gifts He has given to them instead of passing them onto other people. Why would God give them more when they are not obeying Him with what He has already given them? He wants His people to enjoy the opportunity to be the dispenser of His love and be blessed.
Imagine a parent who had several young children with them at home. The parent decides to give each child an ice cream sandwich (that was a special treat for our boys). The older child is given several ice cream sandwiches to their younger siblings and told that once they had given them out they could come back and get theirs. Do you think the parent would give the older child one if they had kept the ones designated for their siblings?
Those who have the heart of God are not greedy but love to give. God is looking for people like you to be His conduit of love to those in need. Are you willing to obey Him and love being a cheerful giver?
