Book: Proverbs 2
“So follow the steps of the good, and stay on the path of the righteous.”
This proverb reminds me of Hebrews 11, also known as the Faith Chapter, where the writer lists people from the Old Testament like Cain, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, and Moses who acted in faith. The first verse in Hebrews 12:1 says, “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.” We are to follow the steps of those who have followed the path of righteousness and who are now cheering us on.
Jeremiah says it slightly differently when he writes what the Lord said, “Stop at the crossroads and look around. Ask for the old, godly way, and walk in it. Travel its path, and you will find rest for your souls” (Jeremiah 11:16).
Notice several things in these verses: 1) The intentional decision to take action. 2) Following the path of the righteous who have gone before and, 3) there is only one single good path and that is the one God has laid out in the beginning.
I encourage you to read through Hebrews 11 and notice how many times the statement, “It was by faith” appears. It is only by faith that any of us can follow and stay on the right path.
If your name was written in Hebrews 11, how would your verse go? What would be the faith action that would be associated with your name?
