Book: Proverbs 28
“When there is moral rot within a nation, its government topples easily. But wise and knowledgeable leaders bring stability.”
As you look around the world, as well as in your own country, do you see “moral rot”? Are there laws of the land that go against God’s laws? Does culture promote and put its stamp of approval on those things that God says are wrong? If yes, be aware of the truth of this proverb.
How do we change the direction of moral rot in our society? Can it be changed? Should we just give up?
In the Old Testament, there was a repeating cycle of the children of Israel following God and His laws followed by a time of allowing moral rot which resulted in the nation falling and being deported. There was only one way back and God said in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.”
In the New Testament, the followers of Jesus are called to pray for the people and the leaders. 1 Timothy 2:1-4 says, “I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants everyone to be saved and to understand the truth.” This is step one! Until this is done there is not a step two. We will not hear from God until we obey Him in this step.
