Book: Proverbs 23
“Get the truth and never sell it; also get wisdom, discipline, and good judgment.”
Jesus gave two parables in Matthew 13 that emphasizes the great value of the Kingdom of Heaven, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure that a man discovered hidden in a field. In his excitement, he hid it again and sold everything he owned to get enough money to buy the field. Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for choice pearls. When he discovered a pearl of great value, he sold everything he owned and bought it!”
Getting the truth and never selling it requires giving up everything else in exchange for it. It is valued above all. Jesus brings this out again a few chapters later when he says, “Jesus told him, If you want to be perfect, go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” (Matthew 19:21).
Paul writes in Titus 1:9 to “Hold fast the faithful words” as in having a tight grip with your hands and not letting it be able to be pulled away or dropped. You have exchanged everything for it and it is precious to you.
Since Jesus is the “truth” (John 1:14; 14:6), the one who died on the cross and rose again for us we must highly value our relationship with Him. We cannot afford for anything to get in the way of our relationship with Him. Hold fast to it! Don’t sell it for something else! Guard it! And enjoy it!
John 8:32 says, “And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” Without the truth we cannot experience true freedom.
Take time today to reflect on how you are holding fast to the Truth! Thank Jesus for being the Truth!
