Book: Proverbs 4
“Don’t turn away from my instructions”
God had spoken to the prophet Jonah and told him to go to Nineveh but he chose to disregard/disobey/ turn away from those instructions. In fact he intentionally headed the opposite direction from Nineveh! Why? The people of Nineveh were the enemies of Israel although from God’s perspective they were to be a witness to all nations. Jonah knew that if he went and told the people of Nineveh the message God had for them, they would repent and be saved. He did not want to see this happen.
The result of Jonah’s disobedience was that he got to go on a deep sea dive for three days and live in a belly of a fish with everything else that the fish decided to eat. After he decided to obey, Jonah was deposited ungracefully on the beach. The unfortunate part after this was that when he did obey and follow God’s instructions he still did not have the right attitude. Therefore he lost out on the blessing of joy God had for him when the people did repent.
Is there anything in your life today that is classified as “Turning away from God’s instructions”? Have the right attitude and follow closely what you know God has told you to do. It may be money issues like we talked about yesterday, it might be actions that you know you should take or it may be a habit that you need to turn over to Him. Take time to ask Him to help you obey and then follow through. Remember God only wants the best for you!
