Book: Proverbs 21
“The Lord is more pleased when we do what is right and just than when we offer him sacrifices.”
There is no substitute for doing what is right and just before God. You will remember the story of king Saul who was to go and completely destroy the entire Amalekite nation including all the animals as God would bring justice upon them for what they did to Israel (1 Samuel 15:2). Saul did most of what he was assigned to do but kept the best sheep, goats, cattle so they could be sacrificed and “everything, in fact, that appealed to them.”
Samuel takes Saul to task in 1 Samuel 15:22-23, “What is more pleasing to the LORD: your burnt offerings and sacrifices or your obedience to his voice? Listen! Obedience is better than sacrifice, and submission is better than offering the fat of rams. Rebellion is as sinful as witchcraft, and stubbornness as bad as worshiping idols. So because you have rejected the command of the LORD, he has rejected you as king.” He uses strong words to describe disobedience. There is no substitution for obeying God by doing what is right and just.
As Kingdom builders we want to please the King which means we are people who do what is right and just. Take a few minutes to ask the Lord to see if there are any things in your life that is not in line with what pleases Him. Then confess it and turn it over to Him. He delights when we obey Him!
