Plotting Evil

Book: Proverbs 6

“There are six things the Lord hates – no, seven things he detests: …a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong.”

A heart that plots to do evil is one that has rejected God’s wisdom and ways and instead chooses to go their own destructive way. Once the heart has done the plotting the feet quickly take them down that path of destruction often hurting themselves and others along the way.

Why would anyone plot to do evil? Why would anyone race to do wrong? Think back to the story of Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. They were tempted by Satan, believed the lie and disobeyed by taking the fruit they were not to eat. At that point sin entered in and has become the fallen nature of us all. We focus on ourselves and blame everyone else. Remember what Adam said to God, “The woman you gave me, it was her fault!” In other words Adam was blaming God by saying, “It is your fault because the wife you gave me tempted me into eating it.” Now does this sound like a person who fears God and is following Him? No, Adam and Eve chose to do evil.

In today’s culture people get upset when evil is called evil and sin is called sin. Who is the one who determines what is evil and what is good, what is sin and what is right? It is the Creator of this world, the Almighty, the Righteous One, God. Even though God hates evil and sin, He loves us and His creation so much so that He sent His Son, Jesus, to live on earth, die and rise from the dead so that we might be brought back into a right relationship with Him.

Thank God for sending His Son to die on the cross for your sins so that you might be brought back into a right relationship with Him. Choose daily to fear God, obey Him and receive the many blessings He has for you!
