Book: Proverbs 12
“The words of the wicked are like a murderous ambush, but the words of the godly save lives”
Do you remember that playground verse that kids would say when they were being called names they didn’t like, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me”? Words spoken actually do have the potential to hurt. They have the potential to give life as well.
Max Lucado wrote a children’s book called “You Are Special”. In it children learn that they are special because of who they are not what other people think of them. Max is speaking life on to his young readers that literally could save their lives if they are bullied in the future.
A word of encouragement can be just what a person needs when they are dreaming of becoming or doing something amazing. I have seen young people accomplish great things that they wouldn’t have done on their own when they have had and adult in their life who believes in them and verbally supports them. A teenager was encouraged by his teacher to start a business in line with his passion. It grew to be so large that it was established in several cities.
On the other hand I have seen where an adult has said out of frustration to a young person that they would never be able to do a particular skill even though up to that point they were doing well at it. That young person, from then on they struggled with it. The young person believed the lie and it negatively affected them.
Choose today to speak words of life to those around you. Believe in those you are responsible for and encourage them. Ask them what their dreams are and see how you can help them accomplish them. Breath life into them!
