Purpose of Proverbs

Book: Proverbs 1

“Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise. Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them do what is right, just and fair”

Have you ever read an ad for a product that promised to resolve almost any ailment a person might have? “Just take one spoonful a day and you will be a new person!” I am not going to get into a discussion on the validity of these promises, on the other hand, I trust the promises from the Bible. The above verses explain the benefits of listening and following the wisdom in the book of Proverbs. God has provided them so that those who follow them will live “successful lives.”

Each person desires to live a successful life even if their definition differs. God’s definition of success includes listening, obeying and following Him in a personal relationship. Since He is our loving Creator and knows everything about each of us, He leads us in the right direction. He desires that we would live lives full of doing what is truly right, just and fair in His eyes.

As we read through the book of Proverbs it is important that we invite the Holy Spirit to speak to us, to show us how to best apply wisdom and live disciplined lives. I therefore encourage you to prayerfully read through one chapter of Proverbs each day this month.

Do you want your family and friends to live successful lives? Invite them to learn with you as you go through the book of Proverbs this month. You may even invite them to sign up for the free Kingdom Daily Wisdom newsletter!
