Book: Proverbs 30
Proverbs 30:5 “Every word of God is tested and refined like silver; He is a shield to those who trust and take refuge in Him.”
In this day of peace and affluence, why would we need a shield or a place of refuge? We need protection because we are constantly under attack! God knows and warns us. In 1 Peter 5 He tells us “That enemy of yours, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion fiercely hungry, seeking someone to devour.” Our values, our beliefs, our joy, our health, ourselves and our loved ones are aggressively under assault. We are not surprised because we see it all around us.
So how do we find refuge in the Lord? It is by faith. It is by believing that what God says is true, obeying it and trusting in it. In Hebrews 11:6 it says, “But without faith it is impossible to walk with God and please Him, for whoever comes near to God must necessarily believe that God exists and that He rewards those who earnestly and diligently seek Him.” Earnestly seek God and His word. His word reveals who He is and how we can trust in Him. Then in the book of Hebrews it goes on to use Noah as an example. Noah who found refuge in the ark when the waters covered the earth. He heard God’s word, obeyed it and saved himself and his family from the prevailing wickedness.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, And He will make your paths straight and smooth removing obstacles that block your way.
