Book: Proverbs 8
“All who fear the Lord will hate evil. Therefore, I hate pride and arrogance, corruption and perverse speech.”
Have you ever been around someone who is arrogant and proud? They put everyone else down and through their words try to demonstrate that they are better than everyone else. Most people do not enjoy being around such people.
To fear or have reverence for the Lord means to hate evil. Hate is a strong word but in the Kingdom of God there can not be any pride, arrogance, evil behavior and evil speech. Where there is light, darkness has to leave.
Romans 12:9 lines up well with this proverb as it clarifies further what it means to “Fear the Lord”:
“Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.” With sincere love, arrogance, corruption … does not exist. Sincere love focuses on others not ourselves.
As a Kingdom builder, serve the Lord by showing sincere love to those around you today. Put off all arrogance and pride …. and fear the Lord by “devoting yourself in love” to others. If you want to further study what sincere love is all about read 1 Corinthians 13!
