Book: Proverbs 1
“Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and discipline.”
Stop for a minute and consider the importance of a foundation. Without a solid foundation a house will eventually fall apart even with normal weather conditions as the ground underneath it moves and washes away. A house with a solid foundation will last for years.
Jesus talked about this same topic in Matthew 7 when He says, “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
Obedience to God and fearing the Lord, are foundational to true knowledge and understanding. Without this rock solid foundation a person would be building their life on shifting sand that eventually will collapse all they have built. With the rock solid foundation, a person will safely understand and apply wisdom which will protect them in times of difficulties. They know that they’re safe because they have built their lives on the most solid foundation that exists and that is God.
You have started into a new month not knowing the challenges it may bring. Make sure your life is built solidly on the Lord, fearing and obeying Him.
