Book: Proverbs 12
“Wickedness never brings stability, but the godly have deep roots.”
Winter time brings some fierce storms here on the west coast. Watching the waves crash into the coast during these strong storms with all of its power is something to see. Resorts and Hotels have made a business luring in tourists for these storm watch months. It is essential that the trees here have deep roots that hold them upright when the storms hit. They may sway in the wind and even bend alot but they stay standing because they are solidly fastened to the earth. This brings them great stability. Sometimes the trees almost look like they are having fun as their branches swing back and forth.
Those who have a deep faith and trust in God and know that He will carry them through anything and everything are able to withstand life’s storms. This is not true for those who are wicked and not rooted in God’s wisdom. When life’s storms come they try to figure out on their own what to do to stay stable but it is too late. It takes time to grow deep roots that keep one steady. The good news though is that those who call out to God in their distress, He will be their shelter.
Psalm 91 is a great chapter to read to see God’s promise of protection and help. The Message paraphrases the last three verses like this, “If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says GOD,“I’ll get you out of any trouble. I’ll give you the best of care if you’ll only get to know and trust me. Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times; I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party. I’ll give you a long life, give you a long drink of salvation!”
Stability in life can only be found in a solid foundation, having roots planted deep into God and His wisdom. He then becomes our protector, our refuge and solution to our troubles. He wants to be all these things to every child, teen and adult but He will not force Himself on anyone. He has to be invited into their life and they have to choose to be who they were made to be.
How are your roots growing in God’s wisdom today? Take time to talk with God asking Him to help you grow even deeper roots. Always call out to Him in times of trouble and allow Him to protect you.
