Book: Proverbs 23
“Don’t envy sinners, but always continue to fear the Lord. You will be rewarded for this; your hope will not be disappointed.”
Focus, focus, focus! From Adam & Eve throughout history, humans have tended to stray away from fearing God even when they have things good. Yet those who feared the Lord benefited greatly.
Even though others may seem to be succeeding and advancing quicker than those who fear the Lord, He reassures us by saying, “For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord. They are plans for good and not disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11). Those who fear the Lord are guided by Him. He knows what is the very best for each one of us.
It is too easy to allow our minds to wander and start comparing ourselves to those who are not seemingly following God. This is why we need to encourage one another to stay focused on His ways. Walking with like minded people who fear the Lord can be a great help. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 brings this out, “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.” We actually need each other. Although we are responsible for how we live our lives before God, He has given us others to help on life’s journey. This is where accountability partners can be a great help.
Instead of focusing on how sinners are doing things we should follow the example of David where he says, “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” (Psalm 119:105) He was not looking over at someone stumbling in the dark who seemed to be finding their way. No he chose the path that was being illuminated by God’s Word believing that it was the safest and best way for his life.
Take time today to thank the Lord that fearing Him is the best way for your life. Thank Him also for all the rewards He has for you.
