Book: Proverbs 22
“A prudent person foresees danger and takes precautions. The simpleton goes blindly on and suffers the consequences.”
At one of the Children/Teen camps I served at it was standard procedure for the leaders of canoe trips to scout out the route a week or two before hand. They would follow the route they planned on taking identifying any hazards, rapids and safe places to rest. For each section of the route they would first look at maps to determine any already identified issues. Through the whole process, these leaders were looking out for their safety and the safety of the campers they would take in the near future. The more they knew about their trip, the better prepared they would be to lead others.
One of the things we know about Satan is that he does not play fairly. He is out to destroy and will do so when given the opportunity. We therefore need to be on our guard taking precautions for ourselves, family and others. Kingdom builders are prudent people.
How does one prepare and take precautions? Let me suggest several ways. First of all commit your life, family, business, and path to the Lord by praying and reading the Bible. (Proverbs is a good book to work through!). Secondly, do not rush into decisions but rather look to see what the potential are and how to minimize them. Thirdly, ask other mature people for their input. Then step out in faith always with a sense of reliance on God and be prepared for the unexpected.
