Book: Proverbs 15
“The soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse tongue crushes the spirit.”
Isn’t it amazing how our tongue can create words that can be a great encouragement and spur people on for good or destroy people? In fact it takes many more life breathing words to overcome a few hurtful words.
A Camp Executive Director that I served under years ago would take the cabin leaders aside early in the week and have each one of them write out each campers strengths and weaknesses. The only catch was that the cabin leaders had to write four positive comments first before they could put a negative comment. If they wanted to write an additional negative comment then they would have to write another four positive comments first. Needless to say there were very few negative comments! This helped the cabin leaders speak gentle words of life instead of focusing on the negative which would crush the campers.
Who do you remember in your life who spoke words of life, potential and encouragement that moved you forward? The Camp Executive Director spoke words of encouragement into my life and then when correction was needed he had the ability to speak without crushing my spirit.
As a Kingdom builder, who has God put in your sphere of influence that needs and would benefit from words of encouragement? Ask the Lord to give you the right words and opportunity to speak life into their life.
