Book: Proverbs 24
“My child, eat honey, for it is good, and the honeycomb is sweet to taste. In the same way, wisdom is sweet to your soul. If you find it, you will have a bright future, and your hopes will not be cut short.”
This time of year there are many Christmas goodies to share. In particular, anything that is sweet seems to find its way towards my mouth. Yes, I enjoy the sweet taste of the many types of Christmas cookies but I have to be careful how many I eat so that I don’t have to go on a major diet come the first of the New Year!
As you know, honey is good and sweet. It has many purposes and can even be used to keep cut apples from going brown (I think if I dipped cut apples in a honey solution in our household they would disappear before they sat out for more than five minutes!). Honey also does not have a expiration date as it lasts forever!
As you think of God’s wisdom, it’s not only good for you but it’s there for you to enjoy. Living a wise life brings benefits to enjoy each day. Just like the dipped cut apple, wisdom preserves those that have clothed their lives with it. It provides protection against those things that want to break down or destroy us.
Just as honey does not have an expiration date neither does wisdom. God’s wisdom for our lives today is the same and as good as it was for Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden. It has proved the test of time and in every situation that humans have experienced.
God’s sweet wisdom can not be improved upon. It can not be made better. It does not change.
Enjoy God’s wisdom, a great gift He has given us, as you prepare to celebrate the birth of our Saviour!
