Book: Proverbs 9
“Wisdom has built her house;…’Come in with me,’ she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says, “Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed.”
Although I enjoy cooking, it is always wonderful to have someone else prepare a meal for us like a chef at a restaurant. When the food arrives at the table, I like to see what creative twist has been implemented. Sometimes it is the ingredients that have been used and sometimes it is the presentation that causes delight! Although the chef has created the dish, it is us the customer who gets to enjoy it.
I am so thankful that God has made His wisdom available to us to receive. In fact we are urged by Him to receive the wisdom He has for us. James 1:5 says, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” He is generous with His Wisdom to us.
So what stops us from accessing His Wisdom? It is when we choose to “make our own wisdom” instead of having faith in God and His wisdom. Pride, arrogance, anger, fear, and self focus will deny God’s wisdom in our lives. We end up trusting ourselves instead of God.
God on the other hand loves us so much that He wants us to feast on His Wisdom. You may well know this phrase, “He brought me to the banqueting house and his banner over me was love.” (Song of Solomon 2:4). In the New Living Translation it says, “He escorted me to the banquet hall; it is obvious how much he loves me.” The writer is overwhelmed by the love being expressed and is able to enjoy all that is put before her. As we allow God’s love to overwhelm us we are able to receive and enjoy all the wisdom that He has prepared for us. He is not stingy in giving out His Wisdom but instead very generous!
Today, enjoy the banquet table of wisdom God has prepared for you!
