Book: Proverbs 28
“Young people who obey the law are wise; those with wild friends bring shame to their parents.”
Recently on a radio show a young man in his twenties who has been involved in gang life since he was in his early teens shared the challenges he faces as he tries to get out of that lifestyle. Generally there are only two ways, death or going to jail. What he has experienced and seen is much more than anyone would want to in their life time. Although his parents weren’t really mentioned, I am sure there must have been many nights of crying for their son.
In contrast seeing young people make wise choices and gaining wisdom from God is a blessing to their parents, community and nation. This has been demonstrated through history as you consider who started denominations and parachurch organizations as well as much of the music sung. Almost all were accomplished by 17 – 35 years olds. Yet when we see portraits of these people it is when they are older with white hair.
Yet God has given a unique privilege to those who are “not so young” to mentor, coach and disciple the young people of today. Encouraging them in their faith and to hear from God is essential. At the same time young people can influence other young people to make wise decisions. This is all part of being in His Kingdom.
Ask the Lord to give you a heart for a few young people that He wants you to encourage. Ask Him for the wisdom and opportunity to speak positively into their lives and open doors so that they can flourish!
